La Ladrona de Libros nos sitúa en uno de los momentos más difíciles de la humanidad, la Segunda Guerra Mundial , siendo un drama bélico, que tocara la fibra todos los espectadores, de la misma forma que el libro, pero adaptada a la pantalla grande , nos adentrara en un momento de lucha, esfuerzo y unidad humana, como lo fue este acontecimiento histórico, situándonos en el comienzo , en Abril de 1938, comprendiendo dos años , en los cuales nos narrara la vida de Liesel Meminger y sus padres Hans Hubermann y Rosa Hubermann, así como la amistad que tuvo con Rudy Steiner, el film nos presentara también a Max Vandenburg , personaje que dejara una huella muy grande en todos , así como fue para Liesel, fue su guía y apoyo, en momentos muy difíciles .

Los vestuarios de esta época, han sido muy bien elaborados por Anna B. Sheppard , para lograr este film con esta exactitud se rodó en los Estudios Babelsberg en Berlin, ahí Simón Elliot , construyo la casa de los Hubermann, dándole vida a la "Calle Himmel " o "Cielo" también creando el campo y el set , lugar donde transcurren los echos más emotivos de la película, también debemos hablar de la música la cual nos transporta y nos hace vivir este contexto histórico , creada por el gran John Williams . en palabras de el Director Brian Percival : “Hubiera sido erróneo crear una gran banda sonora que eclipsara las vidas sencillas de gente común y corriente de la calle Himmel, y John entendió esto. Ha escrito una banda sonora que es bella y perfectamente apropiada para esta propuesta, que me conmovió hasta las lágrimas”.
